Furnace & Boiler Tune-Ups in Missoula, MT
A furnace or boiler tune-up is a yearly inspection, cleaning and safety check that catches worn parts before they leave you without heat. The best time is fall, before steady cold arrives. ProCare Climate does tune-ups on gas, propane and electric furnaces, boilers and radiant systems, heat pumps and air conditioners, on all brands, for homes and businesses in Missoula and across Western Montana. Call or text 406-546-1289 to get on the schedule.

Why tune-ups matter in Western Montana
Our heating season is long. Between October and spring, furnaces and boilers in Missoula, Lolo, Frenchtown, the Bitterroot and around Polson log a lot of hours. Long run times wear out igniters, flame sensors, pumps and motors, and dust builds up in blowers and burners. A tune-up won't make old equipment new. It does find the small problems that turn into no-heat calls on the coldest night, and it's the right time to confirm that fuel-burning equipment is venting safely.
What a furnace tune-up typically covers
Every furnace is different, but a thorough visit usually includes:
- Filter check and airflow
- Ignition and flame sensor (gas and propane)
- Burner inspection and cleaning as needed
- Heat exchanger inspection for cracks or rust-through
- Venting and draft, inside and at the outside termination
- Gas pressure and combustion check
- Blower and motor cleaning and check
- Safety controls: limit, pressure and rollout switches
- Thermostat and electrical connections
- Condensate drain and trap on high-efficiency furnaces
Propane furnaces get the same inspection, with attention to the propane supply and pressure settings. Electric furnaces have no flame, but the heating elements, sequencers, relays and connections get checked. Read more in our furnace tune-up guide.
What a boiler tune-up typically covers
For hot-water boilers and radiant systems, a yearly service usually includes:
- Burner and heat exchanger inspection and cleaning
- Combustion test and venting check
- System pressure and expansion tank
- Pressure relief valve and safety controls
- Circulator pumps and zone valves
- Bleeding trapped air for even heat
- Condensate trap and neutralizer on condensing boilers
- A look at the indirect water heater, if your boiler makes your hot water

Heat pump and AC tune-ups
Heat pumps and air conditioners need care too. An AC or heat pump tune-up includes a coil cleaning, an electrical and refrigerant check, and a full system inspection. In the fall, we can check your AC and get your furnace or boiler ready for winter in the same visit. Learn more about heat pumps and AC service.
Maintenance plans
ProCare Climate offers maintenance plans for homes, businesses and landlords. Ask about a maintenance plan when you call 406-546-1289, and we'll go over what fits your home or building.
Carbon monoxide safety
Heat exchanger and venting checks are a big part of every fuel-burning tune-up. Between visits, keep working carbon monoxide alarms near sleeping areas and on each level of your home, and test them. If an alarm goes off, get everyone outside and call 911 first.
What you can do between visits
- Check or change your furnace filter regularly during the heating season.
- Keep the area around the furnace or boiler clear of storage.
- Keep vents and return grilles open and unblocked.
- Brush snow and ice away from outside intake and exhaust pipes after storms.
- Call when you notice new noises, short cycling or a zone that won't warm up.

Tune-Up FAQ
How often should I have my furnace or boiler tuned up?
Once a year is a good rule for furnaces and boilers, ideally in the fall before the heating season gets going.
Do you tune up propane and electric furnaces?
Yes. We tune up gas, propane and electric furnaces from all manufacturers.
Can you check my AC and furnace in the same visit?
Yes. In the fall, we can check your AC and get your furnace or boiler ready for winter in one visit.
Does a tune-up replace a carbon monoxide alarm?
No. A tune-up checks the equipment and venting, but every home with fuel-burning appliances should still have working CO alarms near sleeping areas and on each level.
Do you offer maintenance plans?
Yes. We offer maintenance plans for homes, businesses and landlords. Ask about one when you call or text 406-546-1289.
My furnace is old. Is a tune-up still worth it?
Usually, yes. A tune-up can keep older equipment running safely and tells you what condition it's in. If replacement makes more sense, we'll say so and give you a free install estimate.
